Paying It Forward

Creating Coding Careers needs your help to boost the visibility of people underrepresented in tech, tell your story, and make earn and learn opportunities sustainable for more people like you. Make a lasting impact by leveraging your skills and paying it forward here is how:

Programs – During the pre-apprenticeship phase you will be exposed to the fundamentals. You will have an opportunity to share what you have learned and demonstrate your grittiness. Participants in the apprenticeship program will be paid a competitive wage to develop the skills necessary to have a successful career in tech. To be successful in this career you must have grit and most importantly develop problem-solving skills.

You will develop problem-solving skills using our learning platform. You may also be placed for on-the-job training with a partner company where you will attain real-world experience and further training specific to that company. As an apprentice, the difference between the contracted rate with that partner company and your wage will go towards covering expenses and hiring the next cohort.
The concept is simple. For apprentices, your wage is being paid by the efforts of your fellow apprentices who have already been trained and are now working with our partner companies. All we ask is that you do the same. Whether it is working on an assigned project, working at a partner company as an apprentice, or donating your time to volunteer. We ask that you give back in proportion to what you have been given to ensure we can sustain our efforts.

Amplify – As a nonprofit Creating Coding Careers is working on our social media presence and storytelling to ensure that funders can find us and people are compelled to take action. It may seem like a tiny gesture, but it can have a huge impact when everyone likes shares or comments on a post. Every time you help us amplify positive messages about CCC we increase the odds that donors will provide more financial support and employers will pay attention to the opportunity to hire diverse apprentices. It is vital that everyone help us fuel fundraising by spreading the word. Join us in promoting all our posts on LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter.

Practice – Code challenges are structured in such a way that knowledge from previous challenges prepares you for future challenges. You will be paired with experienced apprentices who are willing and able to explain strategies and difficult concepts along the way. It is your responsibility to not only participate but to truly understand these strategies and concepts as you too will be expected to take on the teacher role with future cohorts. We will schedule

Learn – Throughout your stay with us you will have access to our programming curriculum, instructors, and teacher’s assistants. Think of the curriculum as an arena to test your ability to problem solve and try not to get overly fixated on the technology you will be learning. Many of our graduates move on to work with completely different technologies than those taught at CCC because they’ve mastered the true lesson to be learned: Problem Solving.

When companies look to hire their next employee they look for someone who is resourcefulness and self-sufficient They do not want to pay you to train you. That is what we are here for. Employers want to know that you are going to exhaust every available resource before you go and take away time from their lead developers. We train you to be resourceful, self-sufficient problem solvers. Being resourceful means learning how to read documentation, mastering the google search and collaborating with your peers. It is not only allowed but encouraged for apprentices to collaborate especially when working through blockers. You are expected to reach out to other apprentices and future cohorts will be expected to reach out to you for help. Ultimately a TA and Instructor will be available to you but you should always be ready to show them that you have exhausted your resources and are still blocked. This is what will be expected of you in any company and you will be trained to do the same here.

Stay involved – You will be exposed to professionals in the industry via several different channels. You will be assigned a mentor and an internal champion. Guest speakers who are professionals in the industry and even bootcamp graduates like yourself make themselves available to share their stories, provide sound advice and answer your questions. It is professional and common courtesy to share your screen while they’re with us, participate in the conversation and thank them for their time afterward. We will ask that future cohorts pay you that same respect and courtesy when you find yourself sharing your journey to success.

Never miss a good story!
